Remembering Steven Sotloff

What will be his legacy? Dark days. Bitter.
Shall we find the truth in love and in caring,
shaping of life in helping humankind in knowing?
C
an such men of good will be found as Steven Sotloff?

Sad the day such men go under, long nights
And sad the world that aches for such hopes.

We will not mention such days as this lost in tears,
but in memory place his light above these fears;

a man of good intent, brave and courageous, cut
and brought down in pain by barbaric acts of heresy.

Sad the day such men go under, long nights
And sad the world that aches after such atrocities.

What will you do Mr. President? Act now?
Shall you continue to play golf? Not now?
Will you act the clown? Sit back in denial?
Watch the world go up in flames? Blinded?

Sad the day such men go under, long nights
And sad the world that aches do to such apathy.

We live in desperate times of utter desolation.
This man did not deserve to die for State crimes
he did not dream; nor in the fierce face of war battle.
W
e bow to the earth our mother blankly. Forgive us?

Sad the day such men go under, long nights
And sad the world that aches after such indecision.

When will good men and women rise up? Challenge it?
When will the world be at peace? Choose it?
What legacy will we give our children? Love or Oblivion?
Is this the end of common sense? Apocalypse or Eden?

Sad the day such men go under, long nights
And sad the world that aches for such finality.
