The Amber Thimble


I hold it to the light oily and thick
almost a substance in its dark pulse

we rode along these old sea beds
men rough and steely blotched the sun
stood around as he made rounds

inspection done he waited
these men knew the truth and plainly stated

– a million bucks for an amber thimble
